On July 15, the Utah County Attorney General’s office charged a foreign national from Mexico with attempted rape, sexual assault, kidnapping, and other charges. The foreign national was arrested on July 11 by Lehi police, per Utah County arrest records.

Rene Cervantes-Medina, 37, according to court documents obtained by the Lehi Free Press, had owed money to the female victim and had asked her to go to the bank. As opposed to driving to the bank, Cervantes-Medina drove her up American Fork Canyon. The case was initially identified by X account “Illegal Alien Crimes.” Cervantes-Medina has had an ICE detainer placed on him.

The victim then attempted to escape the vehicle after he had locked the doors. “The defendant chased her, grabbed her, and threw her on the ground where her head hit a rock, causing her to nearly pass out. The defendant covered her mouth with his hand for 15-20 seconds, making it difficult for her to breathe. While the victim was on the ground, the defendant tried to remove her shirt while he was touching her breasts and vagina,” the documents stated.

“The defendant tried to pull down her pants and ripped her underwear in the process. The victim told the defendant ‘no’ and continued to cry and yell, at which point he hit her in the face, causing her nose and lip to bleed,” the court documents added.

There have several other cases of sexual assault related to illegal immigration in Utah as of late amid the continuing border crisis as Biden has softened security measures for illegal immigration. Governments from New York as well as the city of Denver have facilitated the travel of illegal immigrants to Utah.
